The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering technology currently has a vacant post for Senior Lecturer / Lecturer position.
 
Job Description:
 
The Faculty of Engineering & Built Environments prides itself in its vibrant, dynamic and diverse engineering community of scholars who are passionate about enhancing the learning experience of students, enhancing the research profile of the Faculty and enhancing the academic, social and economic impact of the Faculty’s teaching and research programmes.
 
The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Technology offers accredited engineering programmes in Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEngTech), BEngTech Honours, Masters and PhD in Engineering. The candidate will be expected to teach, supervise students as will be required and to be involved with Research Groups in the Department.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering, supervise masters and doctoral students.
  • Computer literacy in typical Mechanical Engineering software packages (for example: Autocad, Flownex, Matlab, StarCCM.).
  • Conduct research: publish research work in journals, books. Book chapters and conference proceedings.
  • Liaise with industry for collaborations, projects and fund raising. Engage on projects which enable social impact.
  • Compile evidence of teaching for ECSA accreditation.
  • Attend to departments and faculty meetings including various committees’ engagements.
  • Liaise and assist when required with student issues upon delegation of authority of the HoD.

Minimum requirements

Senior Lecturer:
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering or closely related qualification (NQF - 10 equivalent)
  • At least three years’ teaching experience in academia at high tertiary education and industry.
  • Track record of postgraduate student supervision.
  • Evidence of research publications on reputable platforms
  • Professional registration with Engineering Council of South Africa.
 
Lecturer:
 
  • Masters in Mechanical Engineering or closely related qualification (NQF - 9 equivalent)
  • Previous lecturing / teaching experience in academia at high tertiary education and industry experience.
  • Evidence of research publications on reputable platforms
  • Professional registration with Engineering Council of South Africa.
 
Recommendations:
 
  • Experience in dealing with student related enquires.
  • Knowledge of University systems, structures, policies, and procedures
  • Registration with statuary body (e.g. SAIMechE)
 
Competencies:
 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure.
  • Good interpersonal and human relations skills, coupled with intercultural skills and assertiveness.
  • Good professional typing skills.
  • High Attention to detail.
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality.
