Job description

Responsibilities:
 
  • The Commercial Contracts Manager focuses on business enablement and plays an active role in managing funding contracts, responsible for supporting contract owners to reach an implement institutional goal, in line with UJ strategy.
  • Works with faculties and departments (including compliance and Corporate Governance) and closely with the Office of the General Counsel to structure contracts, analyzes contracts to ensure compliance with UJ policies, government specifications, and other requirements.
  • Build effective relationships with contract owners, divisions departments, Alumni and external stakeholders (including Government, Corporates and SETAs.
  • Manage, communicate, and drive any regular and / or ad hoc internal Commercial / Financial /Legal discussions and / or meetings within Fundraising and Development to ensure objectives are achieved timeously.
 
Contracts Management:
  • Managing contract obligations between contract owner (UJ) and third parties.
  • Supervising contract execution to ensure full compliance with regulatory and compliance policies/guidelines.
  • Responsible for governance process within Fundraising and Development.
  • Support and manage contracts negotiations and act as the conduit between internal stakeholders and external stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the overall commercials within Fundraising and Development
  • Responsible for the monthly reporting.
  • Lead commercial review and negotiations on all funding contracts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills able to build effective relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Conflict management and negotiation (overcomes obstacles to find mutual solutions, risk mitigation).

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study (Finance, Legal, Commerce, Business)
  • At least 5-8 years' of experience in contracts and commercial including financial related to funding in Higher Education Institutions or similar.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in project management.
  • Computer Literacy in Microsoft Office.
 
Recommendations:
 
  • Certificate in contract management
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience in compliance management.
  • Experience in the Higher Education sector and/or in the profit sector and financial sector is desirable.

  • Knowledge and understanding of contract management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of project management principles.
  • Ability to work with confidential documents and understanding confidentiality obligations.
