Job description
- Manage the clinic administrative staff in coordination with the Head of Department (HOD) and where necessary the various year coordinators
- Provide direction and clinical leadership, support operational requirements for quality assurance and maintain quality clinical and practical services
- Oversee the overall day-to-day performance of the clinic, including administrative, technical and clinical tasks.
- Ensure safe and efficient delivery of patient eye care and related services
- Plan and facilitate the co-ordination of the on- and off-site clinics and the accompanying students training opportunities (practicals)
- Promote clinic to internal and external stakeholders and develop a targeted marketing plan to increase community involvement
- Responsible for the overall management of the clinic including but not limited to financial; staff; stock; assets; professional conduct; stake holders; safety; patient care; quality control and project management
- Initiate the development, revision and compliance with policies and procedures specific to patient care in the clinic
- Be aware of new technologies in terms of lenses and equipment and evaluate for improvement and incorporation in the clinic
- Compile and present reports on clinic for administrative, departmental, faculty and external stakeholders
- Attend meetings related to management of the clinic with relevant stakeholders
- Set and manage short- and long- term budgets for the clinic
- Fund raising to support internal and external clinical activities
Minimum requirements
- Minimum qualifications M 4 or M 3 1 in Optometry, Optical Dispensing and/or related field
- HPCSA Registration with the relevant Professional Board for Optometry and Optical Dispensary and related field is a requirement
- Managerial qualification and minimum of 5-years’ experience
- Knowledge of Public Health Structures and regulations, Health Professional Councils and related fields, medical aids, medico-legal and ethical rules.
- Proven track record in the management of an Optometric practice or a related health care facility and/or environment such as a clinic
- Good working knowledge of Optometric Management systems
- Good leadership and organizational skills
- Effective communication, planning and organizational skills (A second or third language would be an advantage.)
- Ability to handle stress effectively
- Superior time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal English communications skills. – Effective verbal and written English communication skills
- Proven computer literacy and ability to use MS Word and Excel
- Enthusiasm and passion for the profession of Optometry
- Previous optometric and/or medical office or clinic experience
- Understanding confidentiality and the handling of information
- Knowledge of the rationale of appropriate patient care
