Job description

Responsibilities: 
 
The role is responsible for but not limited to:

  • Assist Financial Business Partner, Team Leader and Senior Manager to analyse and interpret the monthly Management Reports with supporting explanations and recommendations.
  • Preparation of ad-hoc reports, and assist with ad-hoc requests.
  • Ensure that all monthly Funds Available Detail Reports are prepared, illustrating variances, and circulate reports to clients.
  • Monitoring of validity of expenditure against UJ policies and procedures and engage with clients on deviations & implications - with appropriate compliance recommendations.
  • Aligning financial processes to ensure effectiveness and to minimize risks.
  • Maintain, approve, and check funds and account allocation of expenditure within the approved research and project budgets.
  • Assist with queries regarding outstanding encumbrances, invoices, and payment requisitions.
  • Analyse and assist Financial Business Partner to clear debit balances.
  • Assist with preparing correctional journals and ensure that corrections are done in the relevant subsystems.
  • Analyse and reconcile general ledger accounts as directed by the Financial Business Partner, Team Leader, and Senior Manager.
  • Prepare payment requests for project payments and do follow ups to ensure correct payments.
  • Ensure that all other administration duties are maintained and up to date.
  • Assist with audits, budget process and other projects in the team.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and liaise with auditors other stakeholders where required.
  • Ensure compliance with good governance, tax, audit legislations and IFRS.
  • Take initiative to improve processes and approaches, demonstrating adaptability to changing priorities.

Minimum requirements

  • Diploma/Advanced certificate in Accountancy/Finance (NQF 6)
  • At least two to three years’ experience in finance or similar environment
  • Good understanding of accounting principles
  • Computer Literacy in Microsoft Office (Excel) is essential
