Job description

To fulfil the role and responsibilities of a Fleer Driver at the APK Campus as well as assisting at the DFC and SWC campuses as and when required.
 
Fleet Driver:

  • Perform the duties as fleet driver to transport staff, students, and visitors according to the bookings received during working hours, after hours, weekends and UJ / public holidays.

PWD Driver:

  • Perform the duties as PWD driver to transport disabled staff, students, and visitors according to the bookings received during the week, after hours, weekends and UJ / public holidays.
  • Driving to Metro, AARTO, DFC and local post offices to collect or deliver traffic fines and fuel reports.

MEC Driver:

  • Perform the duties as a special driver to transport MEC members on request or any MEC quests and visitors according to the bookings received during working hours, after hours, weekends and UJ / public holidays.
  • Adhere to all Departmental SOP’s and UJ Policies, Rules and Procedures.
  • Ensuring that the office process is followed by completing all the necessary forms for every vehicle booking, namely; Annexure A, B, C, D
  • Ensure that proper pre-inspections and post-inspections are done before and after each trip, by following a proper K53 inspection on the vehicle.
  • Reporting any vehicle defects, damages, fault, or accidents including traffic fines received to Line Manager.

Minimum requirements

  • National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
  • Eight (8) years working experience being a Fleet Driver or Chauffeur Driver and driving passengers around in sedans, mini-buses and midi-buses, related to a Vehicle Fleet environment
  • At least five (5) years working experience in driving for a higher education institution.
  • A valid driver’s license (Code 10) – with a valid PDP
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Ability to priorities workload and to work under pressure without supervision
  • Must be willing to work after hours and weekends.
  • When required, it will be expected to assist with driving clients around after hours and over weekends and UJ or Public Holidays and to perform cross boarder trips and sleepovers.
 
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • Excellent written, verbal, listening and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of good customer service.
  • Knowledge of road safety and road traffic Act.
  • Knowledge of various vehicle types, sizes, and handling.
  • Knowledge of Vehicle Bookings, Logbooks, and vehicle Trip Inspections.
  • Knowledge of vehicle mechanics and components.
  • Knowledge of the greater Johannesburg area and other provinces.
  • Ability to work under pressure towards a deadline.
  • Knowledge of cross-border processes, rules, and regulations.
  • Working with initiative and creativity.
  • Working cooperatively in a teamwork environment.
  • Being reliable, responsible, and punctual.
 
 Recommendations:
 
  • Working experience in driving for a Higher Education institution or environment.
  • Experience in a Vehicle Fleet environment.
  • A valid passport as cross boarder trips do occur.
  • It is an advantage to have knowledge in Transport and Vehicle Fleet operations, fines administration and external vehicle rental bookings in a similar Higher Education environment or Transport Fleet environment.
