Job description
The Council of the University of Johannesburg has declared the University as a mandatory vaccination site as per the applicable policy ((https://www.uj.ac.za/covid-19/). All applications and offers of employment is dependent upon compliance with the said policy.
- Develop and maintain an integrated Occupational Health model.
- Develop Occupational Health business plans.
- Research national and international best practices in the field of Occupational Health.
- Consult with all relevant stakeholders/ professional functionaries to ensure full integration of new or amended Occupational Health policies and procedures with current legislation about their respective fields of expertise and other related policies and procedures.
- Ensure that mechanisms and processes are in place to continuously evaluate and update all Occupational Health policies, directives, practices, and procedures.
- Highlight Occupational Health-related risk areas and recommend appropriate strategies, actions, and control measures to minimize the potential financial, legal and ethical impact thereof within the context.
- Facilitate Occupational Health risk control measures.
- Identify the need for and implement relevant Occupational Health and Wellness projects and preventative programmes i.e., flu vaccinations, screening campaigns, etc.
- Evaluate and interpret relevant audit findings for potential risk areas and facilitate correct implementation of response strategies to proactively address all these identified risks.
- Ensure a well-planned, organized, appropriate and cost-effective Occupational Health service to the business.
- Ensure the development and training of Occupational Health staff on the latest methodology, techniques, etc.
- Negotiates contracts with external service providers as required from time to time.
- Build and maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Nursing (General, Community, Psychiatry) & Midwifery.
- Postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health Nursing Science with 5 years’ job-related experience.
- Current dispensing license, Certificates in Audiometry and Spirometry.
- Understanding of interrelatedness between the professional functionary discipline.
- Ability to provide leadership and direction to support the university population into employee Occupational Health objectives within the service delivery structure.
- Ability to align the function with organizational needs and international benchmarking.
- Understanding of potential business risks and business needs in terms of Occupational Health and Wellness.
