Job description
The Council of the University of Johannesburg has declared the University as a mandatory vaccination site as per the applicable policy ((https://www.uj.ac.za/covid-19/). All applications and offers of employment is dependent upon compliance with the said policy.
- Reviewing and critiquing research proposals and draft data collection instruments.
- Advising post-graduate students and researchers with quantitative research design (experimental and survey design), sampling design, questionnaire design, and development of an analysis plan.
- Supporting the researcher during the data capture phase of their project
- Conducting statistical analysis or supporting the researcher to conduct analysis and facilitating feedback meetings to explain statistical results
- Mentoring of data analysts and student technical assistants
- Building research capacity of post-graduate students and academics at the UJ through workshops and training
Minimum requirements
- Honours degree (NQF 8) or equivalent qualification in Statistics, Mathematics or an equivalent discipline, with 2 to 3 years’ job-related experience in one of the listed disciplines
- Two year minimum experience conducting research in a university or equivalent
- Two year minimum experience working with a statistical computer package such as SPSS, SAS or Statistical
- Two year minimum experience working with computer-based data preparation and analysis of data
- Good knowledge of research methodology, sampling and questionnaire design
- Good knowledge of basic and intermediate statistics
- Meticulous and detail-focused
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to identify and mitigate risks
- Collegial and emotionally intelligent
- Ability to work in a pressurised environment and independently
- High level of integrity and ethical standards
- Good judgement and decision-making skills

- Sound report writing and interpretation skills
- Masters or Doctorate qualification or equivalent in Statistics, Mathematics or an equivalent discipline
- Self-starter with strong self-management skills
- Good knowledge of advanced statistical procedures
