Job description
- Mounting and striking of art exhibitions.
- Support Curator with assets control of UJ Art Collection and gallery equipment.
- Safety and security function within gallery set-up.
- Public interface, managing reception desk, attend to enquiries.
- Documentation and inspection pertaining to the exhibitions and UJ Art Collection.
- Stock control.
- Upkeep of database and electronic mailing of information.
- Specialised handling and packaging of artworks.
- Driving a vehicle for transportation of guests, students, artworks and stage sets.
- Driving vehicles for transportation of artworks, stage/event decor, and props and for transportation of students and guests.
- Act as Messenger.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 qualification (essential).
- Code 10 driving license and PDP.
- Ability to handle artworks.
- Ability to handle power tools and electronic equipment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Client orientated approach to service delivery.
- Consistent awareness of security.
- Experience interacting with people.
- The ideal candidate will be a broad-based Internal Assistant with an understanding of the operational aspects of handling artworks, the need for safety and security within the domain and the ability to interact with a variety of people within the South African arts culture industry. Reporting to the Curator of the UJ Art Gallery, the incumbent will have proven technical and computer skills.
