Job description

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) in partnership with the W&R SETA aspires to become a leading centre of research and skills development for the wholesale and retail industry in South Africa. In line with this aspiration, UJ will be host to the Wholesale & Retail Leadership Chair of Gauteng. This advert is for an Industry Liaison Officer within this office and the incumbent will be responsible for all the stakeholder relations.

This is a temporary (short term) position of 11.5 months, and is linked to a three year project that is running within the Department in conjunction with the Wholesale & RetailĀ (W&R) SETA, renewal of appointment is subject to availability of funding and whether the deliverables of the project were achieved.

Core functions of the Industry Liaison Officer:

  • Build and maintain industry relationships and maintain an accurate database
  • Compile regular newsletters
  • Supervise and co-ordinate the activities / events of the retail Chair
  • Responsible for marketing and communication
  • Manage the student and alumni tracking system
  • Manage the website
  • Report to Governance Board and Management Operating Committee
  • Manage staff and student exchange programmes

Minimum requirements

Qualifications:

  • Diploma/Degree in Marketing Management or equivalent.

Competencies:

  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Self-motivated, goal-driven and able to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Experience in strategic marketing
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • An understanding of the Higher Education environment will be an advantage
  • Experience in the Retail and Wholesale sector will be an advantage
  • Retail and Wholesale industry network and relationships will be an advantage
  • The office bearer will need to be skilled in digital marketing, public relations, copywriting and website maintenance.
