Job description
- You teach Development Studies at the undergraduate and Honours levels in a blended (face-to-face and online) teaching and learning context.
- You supervise postgraduate students at Honours, MA and PhD levels.
- You engage in research, and produce peer-reviewed accredited publications.
- You participate in Departmental administrative duties, and in Development Studies strategic planning.
- You engage in activities and events in the Faculty and University, and/or academic association/s.
- You involve yourself in community engagement.
Minimum requirements
- Doctorate in Development Studies or related field
- Some University teaching experience
- Some experience of supervising Honours students.
- Some peer-reviewed published research outputs in accredited national or international journals and books.
- Teaching experience of large undergraduate classes, following a scaffolded blended learning and teaching approach.
- Development of quality innovative learning materials.
- Meaningfully involved in community engagement activities.
- Hold a critical, multidisciplinary and social justice approach to Development Studies.
- Must be able to engage with one or more of the four themes of focus of UJ Development Studies (see website).
- Relevant teaching-related, research and supervision skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good planning and administration skills.
- Must be positive, competent, collegial, polite and professional.
- May be required to travel to travel between Campuses.
- May be required to work overtime during peak periods - selections, registration, examination and graduation.
- Must take part in Departmental and Faculty events, committees and meetings
