Finance Manager (P8) (Faculty of Humanities: CSDA) (3 year fixed term contract)

Job description
- Managing the financials by maintaining oversight of all the funds the CSDA and the South African Research Chair in Welfare and Social Development are responsible for
- Financial accountability of the CSDA, including facilitating payments and receipts and checking of monthly reports
- Cash flow management
- Preparing budgets and managing budgets with the Director and project leaders
- Operational management of the office, administrative staff, finance and HR functions including strengthening, developing and maintaining systems to oversee the management of all aspects of the work of the CSDA
- Strategic management support to Director
- Financial management including monthly financial reconciliations.
- Cash flow management and assessing/revising costing models
- Seeking out funding opportunities and supporting CSDA staff to pursue funding opportunities
- Operational management including maintaining, revising and implementing office management systems and processes
- Management of administration team
- HR support to the Director and office
- Legal contracting and liaison with the Office of the General Counsel
- Strategic managerial support to the Director
- Liaison with high level partners, including funders, of the CSDA and the South African Research Chair in Welfare and Social Development
Minimum requirements
- Degree in finance/accounting/business administration or similar NQF level 8 qualification
- At least 5 years’ experience working in financial management including budgeting, budget forecasting and cash flow management
- At least 3 years’ experience working in operational management or business administration
- Management and staff management
- Advanced computer literacy
- Advanced Excel
- Experience with Oracle or similar
- Ability to forge systematic solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness of work processes
- Ability to pay attention to detail and follow tasks through to completion
- Ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues across the university
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
- He/she must be a team player and be able to work independently
- Trustworthiness and respect for confidentiality
- Persistence and an attitude of problem solving
- Takes initiative and has the ability to lead
- Knowledge of working in a large institution or a university an advantage
- Experience liaising with high level stakeholders and funders
- Knowledge of legal contracts
- Knowledge of general HR processes
