Job description

Reporting to the Director: Networks and Telephony at ICS, the Senior Network Administrator will be responsible for Design, Project Coordination and Administration, Innovation and Research (New Technology) in the Network, Wi-Fi and Telephony environments. The incumbent must be a dynamic, flexible and self-motivated person who will provide inter alia the following services:

  • Monitoring of network infrastructure (network, Wi-Fi and telephony) for performance
  • Capacity Planning and bandwidth utilisation
  • Service delivery by providing higher level support when required (handling escalations from 3rd line network, Wi-Fi and Telephone support)
  • Escalation to external support service provider within 1 hour of failing to resolve.
  • Testing and evaluating existing networks, maintaining existing networks and troubleshooting LAN and WAN networks
  • Constant engagement with service provider until final resolution
  • Facilitate the RCA report drafting after major incidents
  • Technological Innovation and Enhancement by providing and implementing innovative idea in network management, network and Wi-Fi infrastructure, voice and video communication
  • Leverage on automation and new technologies
  • Capacity Planning and bandwidth utilisation
  • Collaboration and benchmarking with other global institutions of higher learning
  • Project administration and Network Management

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's degree NQF level 7
  • Cisco – CCNA,CCNP (R&S, Data Center, Security, LAN and WLAN)
  • Huawei- HCNA,HCNP (R&S, WLAN)
  • Alcatel –ACFE, ACSE - Desirable
  • Experience with troubleshooting and support of network environment
  • Working within a support team
  • Five years network design and troubleshooting experience

Recommendations:
Knowledge:
  • ITIL
  • Understanding of network fundamentals
  • Computer IP Network and Telephony Principles (LAN, WLAN and WAN)
  • Understanding of network protocols
  • Understanding of Network OSI Layers
  • Knowledge of network security (LAN and WLAN)
  • Full understanding of mac address, ARP and routing tables
  • Knowledge of network analysis tools, e.g. Wireshark
  • Full understanding of Routing and Switching
  • Full Understanding of LAN, WLAN and WAN environment
  • Professional understanding of Network, Network Security and Wi-Fi Monitoring tools

Skills:
  • Professional understanding of Access Control Lists
  • Basic understanding of Firewalling
  • Report writing
  • Cisco routing and switching
  • Huawei Routing, switching and WLAN
  • Network performance monitoring

Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
  • Project management and leadership skills are essential
  • Current understanding of best practices regarding networking Wi-Fi and telephony protocols
