Job description

The Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering Science has a vacancy of a Lecturer who will be expected to teach, supervise students as will be required and also to be involved with Research Groups in the Department
 
Responsibilities:

  • Develop a teaching portfolio reflecting:
  • Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) through the: Teaching and learning of under- and postgraduate modules;
  • Supervision and partnership with postdoctoral research fellows; Supervision of postgraduate students at masters level;
  • Supervision of final year undergraduate / capstone project students;
  • Conduct leading research producing recognised research outputs (ISI-/IBSS-listed journal outputs);
  • Advance the discipline of Electrical Engineering through industrial work, community engagement and active participation in voluntary associations / professional societies;
  • Drive the GES objectives of the University of Johannesburg.

Minimum requirements

  • Masters of Science Engineering (MSc Eng) qualification in Electrical Engineering or a recognised equivalent qualification; A minimum of three years teaching experience at a tertiary institution, or
  • A minimum of three years industrial experience.
  • Very good in programming languages: C , C, Python, Java
  • Hands-on Electrical Engineer
  • Strong knowledge and background with Electrical and Electronic circuits theory

Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • Relevant evidence of discipline advancement and / or community engagement projects.
  • Fluent in English, teaching demonstration would be required.
  • Evidence of strong industrial participation.
  • Evidence of professional development.
  • Evidence of relevant research capacity.
 
 Recommendations:

  • Strong academic character; Industrial experience; Demonstrated leadership skills;
  • Noteworthy career in Electrical Engineering industry or academic institution;
  • Registered Professional of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), or immediate application in case of appointment.
