Job description
- Planning, implementing and evaluating success of marketing and communication of programmes/strategies of the Faculty.
- Providing support to the individual departments of the Faculty in the area of marketing and communication
- Engagement with departments, divisions and relevant stakeholders on Faculty and Institutional marketing and communication campaigns
- Managing stakeholder relationships wrt faculty marketing matters
- Making appropriate and effective use of social medial platforms for faculty/ institutional marketing purposes
- Maintaining faculty websites and social media accounts
- Liaising with and assisting various departments and centers with regards to community engagement initiatives and activities, with special reference to the Soweto Science centre
- Engaging and building relationships with relevant university structures and external parties with the aim of identifying/creating bursary opportunities, internships for students of the FacultyBuilding relationships with schools for the purpose of student recruitment Building and maintaining a database of potential applicants
- Playing an active role in raising funds for the faculty
- Implementing activities and programmes such as event planning, direct marketing campaigns, advertising campaigns and brochure development
- Being actively involved in updating of all institutional and Faculty publications on information regarding academic programmes
- Managing financial and other resources needed to implement and maintain marketing and communication campaigns
- Service on relevant Faculty committees (e.g Faculty Community engagement Committee and Transformation Champions Committee)Maintaining faculty achievement records and reporting on those formally or through marketing tools (i.e Faculty Snippets, Annual Reports, Newsletters etc.
- Providing regular written reports on plans, progress and achievements in the various areas of responsibility
- Keeping abreast of the environment, developments and trends in the internal and external marketing
Minimum requirements
- An Honours degree in Marketing/Communication or equivalent discipline
- Operational level experience in marketing and communication (3-5 years)
- Relevant experience in a university environment
- Project Management skills and experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Afrikaans will be an added advantage)
- Excellent planning and organising skills
- Attention to detail
- Good listening skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Excellent computer skills (MS Oce, PowerPoint, Excel etc…)
- Excellent interpersonal skills (networking and relationship building
- Excellent presentation skills
- Effective problem-solving skills
- Good administrative skills
- A high level of creativity and originality
- Knowledge of university systems, structures, policies and procedures
- Relevant work experience in any service-related industry (1 to 2 years)
- Experience in the Sciences environment
- Fundraising experience
