Job description

The Faculty of Engineering & Built Environments (FEBE) prides itself in its vibrant, dynamic and diverse engineering community of scholars who are passionate about enhancing the learning experience of students, enhancing the research profile of the Faculty and enhancing the academic, social and economic impact of the Faculty’s teaching and research programmes.
The Department of Civil Engineering Technology (DCET) is one of several departments in FEBE and is one of the most promising departments in the faculty. The Department offers accredited Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEng Tech) and BEng Tech (Hons) programmes.

Responsibilities:

• Lecturing, coordinating, assessing and tutoring large undergraduate (Departmental/service) modules in transportation engineering.
• Research and publish in any field that articulates well with the existing research interests of the department.
• Contributing to departmental outreach and community engagement programmes.
• Perform other administrative duties as determined by Head of Department e.g. Marketing departmental programmes, preparation for ECSA accreditation, prepare teaching files, just to mention a few.

Minimum requirements

  • Masters in Civil Engineering or a closely related (NQF 9 or equivalent).
  • Teaching qualification specializing in transportation engineering.
  • At least 3 years of previous lecturing / teaching experience at a tertiary institution.

Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • Good communication skills (written and verbal with high level of proficiency in English.
  • Good oral communication in at least one other language.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Computer literacy including MS Office (MS Word and Excel).

Recommendations

  • ECSA registration or eligible for registration with ECSA.
  • Research specialization that articulates well with the existing interest of the department.
  • Evidence of research outputs and proven track record of postgraduate supervision at Honours level or higher.
