Job description

The Department of Science and Technology Education is one of five departments in the Faculty of Education at UJ. It is a dynamic and innovative department, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the following fields:

  • Learning technologies
  • Mathematics education
  • Natural, Physical and Life Sciences education
  • Technology education.
 
The department invites applications for the academic post of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Learning Technologies. We seek an individual with excellent academic credentials in teaching and research in this field.

Responsibilities:  
 
  • Teaching in the fields of Learning Technologies (contact, blended and online) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Lead online teaching innovations
  • Supervise student research at Master’s and Doctoral level in areas related to the position
  • Involvement in national and international research projects 
  • Research in Learning Technologies including procuring funding
  • Involvement in core activities of the department such as academic administration, research, short-course development, marketing, and community projects

Minimum requirements

Minimum Requirements for Lecturer

  • A Master’s degree in Learning Technologies or a related field
  • At least 5 years teaching experience in CAT and/or IT at school level and/or a related field in teacher education at the tertiary level
  • A evidence-basedtrack record of exemplary teaching (online teaching recommended)
 
Minimum Requirements for Senior Lecturer

  • Applicable PhD/DEd/DPhil degree
  • Teaching experience in Learning Technologies and teacher education at the tertiary level
  • Accredited research output (in local and international journals and books/ book chapters)
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision
 
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues
  • Well-developed portfolio of teaching and learning
  • Adept at teaching and development of materials for online education
 
Recommendations:

  • A defined research trajectory that has resulted in good quality peer-reviewed publications in accredited journals
  • Collaboration with leading scholars in technology education
  • Teaching experience in CAT and/or IT at school level and/or in the teacher education field at the tertiary level
