Job description
- Articulate a quality management portfolio / system for JBS which includes academic development oversight (both contact & online), national & international accreditation, ranking, international memberships and process oversight of strategic academic & institutional planning, data management & dashboard measurement mechanisms;
- Ensure the development of fit for purpose JBS QA policies and procedures in alignment with UJ quality assurance and enhancement policies and strategic objectives, and monitor implementation and effectiveness of same;
- Responsible for assisting the Dean with ensuring JBS compliance to UJ quality promotion and executive governance processes, and management of business school quality standards and best practise;
- Manage quality processes associated with new qualification / programme validations and regular programmatic reviews;
- Performance manage, develop and direct small teams of administrators in the execution and functionality of all areas of the portfolio.
- Map a regional and international accreditation plan seeking short, medium and long term achievements;
- Serve as the point of contact and communication conduit with international quality assurance bodies as required such as the AABS, AMBA, EFMD and AACSB;
- Maintain active affiliation, relationship management and membership oversight with targeted higher education / management education international bodies and interest groups/organisations;
- Write, assimilate and compile high-level audit reports in preparation for self-audit processes;
- Lead project management of regional and international audit visits and reviews;
- Implement international accreditation systems within each business area at the JBS for the effective cross-pollination and integration of necessary standards and criteria;
- Provide regular and timeous dashboard accreditation headline information to the Dean and Executive Committee to monitor and identify gaps that still require development;
- Train and inform academic faculty and JBS business area staff on updated accreditation standards and criteria and assist in process mapping of such across the business school.
- Assist the Dean and members of the JBS Executive Committee to establish a solid South African and Pan-African footprint and leverage international 4IR partnerships;
- Identify targeted local, continental and international academic institutions (universities, business schools, etc) membership organisations, government agencies, funding agencies/CSIs, corporate stakeholders, alumni stakeholders and civil society organisations in order to form strategic partnerships and linkages to further the School’s 4IR mission and imperatives;
- Support the Dean and Executive Committee in forging significant partnerships and networks to leverage programme development, student and faculty/visiting lecturer exchanges, immersion programmes, coaching opportunities, funding initiatives and opportunities and advisory support;
- Identify potential thought leaders and individuals for JBS to partner with to advance the digital transformation agenda;
- In collaboration with the International division centrally located at UJ and the UJ Legal Department, conclude MOUs and MOAs and maintain JBS contractual records as required in support of the above mentioned partnerships and networks.
- Devise and implement effective systems and workflow processes for the capturing, maintenance and synthesis of the JBS information management system;
- Provide regular M&E dashboard headline reports to the Dean and Executive Committee regarding targets versus actual quantitative and qualitative data;
- Map the institutional and academic strategic plans annually.
Minimum requirements
- A Postgraduate qualification (minimum Honours, preferably Master’s degree).
- At least three to five years senior management experience, ideally within a higher education /business school landscape;
- At least five to seven years’ specific and relevant work experience in quality assurance and international accreditation management in a business school environment;
- Strong knowledge base and awareness of the SA national tertiary/higher education regulatory frameworks and experience of committee servicing in this regard, as well as solid track record of academic developments/qualification accreditation processes.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and network;
- High level report writing and business communication skills essential;
- High level operational competence and ability to work under pressure;
- Ability to manage small teams of people with excellent delegation skills in a complex work environment, with tight deadlines;
- Self-directed and autonomous high performing individual with ability to make decisions independently;
- Excellent attention to detail whilst understanding the bigger picture and being able to communicate the same to senior staff and external stakeholders;
- Flexibility, tenacity, resilience and assertiveness.
- An expert working knowledge in the application of international accreditation criteria for business schools is critical and non-negotiable.
- In addition, incumbent will hold experiential expertise in higher education academic QA, institutional and academic planning, monitoring and evaluation, and demonstrated ability to establish strategic global partnerships within the broader management education / business school landscape.
