Job description

UJ Arts & Culture, a division of the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture (FADA), produces and presents world-class student and professional arts programmes aligned to the UJ vision of an international university, anchored in Africa, dynamically shaping the future. A robust range of arts platforms are offered on all four UJ campuses for students, staff, alumni and the general public, to experience and engage with emerging and established Pan-African and international artists drawn from the full spectrum of the arts.

Job Specification:

UJ Arts & Culture seeks to appoint a Marketing Manager to take responsibility for designing, developing and implementing the marketing and communication strategy for Arts & Culture, including all facilities, performing arts, UJ Choir and UJ Art Gallery programmes, projects and events. Additionally, the Marketing Manager will be responsible for the management of the division's Front of House (FOH) team, event coordination and hospitality as well as maintaining the division's websites and social media platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement strategic marketing plan and budget for Arts & Culture
  • Plan, implement, control and evaluate marketing and communications programmes as part of the Arts & Culture's marketing strategy, adhering to the corporate marketing strategy of the University of Johannesburg
  • Oversee and facilitate content generation for internal and external publication
  • Perform all the marketing related duties assigned by the Head of Arts & Culture
  • Develop and manage Arts & Culture's sub-brand within the UJ brand including
  • Update and manage arts & Culture's websites and other social media platforms
  • Oversee and assist with hospitality for Arts & Culture events
  • Oversee and manage the Front of House portfolio
  • Manage Arts & Culture's internal and printing activities
  • Identify and liaise with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain and foster strategic partnerships

Minimum requirements

  • Degree or any relevant qualification (NQF 7), with 2 to 3 years' job-related experience in an arts and culture environment
  • Operational level experience in marketing communication
  • Good knowledge of the tertiary education sector

Recommendations:

The ideal candidate will have proven marketing, communications, publicity event planning and coordinator and website management experience and knowledge and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Database management, graphic design skills, writing skills and PR and Publicity will be advantages.
