Job description
- Design of Wi-Fi solutions
- Devise, plan, deploy, and improve wireless networks from the beginning to implementation by collaborating with vendors, managers, and network engineers.
- Installing, configuring and maintaining wireless network equipment
- Network management
- Security protocols for example 802.1x authentication
- Use of 802.11 b/g/n/ac/ax standards and industry best practices for implementing WIFI solutions in high density, medium capacity and low density environments
- Monitoring of network infrastructure (network, Wi-Fi and telephony) for performance
- Capacity Planning and bandwidth utilisation
- Service delivery by providing higher level support when required (handling escalations from 3rd line network, Wi-Fi and Telephone support)
- Escalation to external support service provider within 1 hour of failing to resolve.
- Testing and evaluating existing networks, maintaining existing networks and troubleshooting LAN and WAN networks
- Constant engagement with service provider until final resolution
- Facilitate the RCA report drafting after major incidents
- Technological Innovation and Enhancement by providing and implementing innovative idea in network management or Wi-Fi infrastructure, voice and video communication
- Leverage on automation and new technologies
- Capacity Planning and bandwidth utilisation
- Collaboration and benchmarking with other global institutions of higher learning
- Project administration
- Training network engineers on the use of wifi planning tools for example heat mapping tools
- Focus on service delivery by assessing current environment and make recommendations for improvement
- Design Wi-Fi deployments
- Report on interference and channel usage
- Do Coverage checking
- Help resolve network problems that are escalated to 3rd line support
- Innovate and enhance
- Collaborate and benchmark
- Administer and lead projects
- Use tools for network management
- Supervise engineers
- Fulfil leadership roles in the department

Minimum requirements
- Degree or any relevant qualification (NQF 7)
- Professional certification with 3 to 5 years’ job-related experience
- Huawei - HCIA,HCNP (Routing & Switching, WLAN)
- Alcatel - ACFE, ACSE - Desirable
- Experience with troubleshooting and support of network environment with focus in Wi-Fi
- Working within a support team
- Five years WIFI network design and troubleshooting experience

- Current understanding of best practices regarding networking and Wi-Fi protocols

- Thorough knowledge of wireless technologies ie channels, frequencies, Signal to noise ratios, interference
- Wireless planning ie heat mapping tools
- Wireless technology troubleshooting ie authentication failures, interference sources, channel allocation, wireless performance and user device troubleshooting
- Knowledge of network security (LAN and WLAN i.e. 802.1x encryption protocols)
- ITIL
- Computer IP Network and Telephony Principles (LAN, WLAN and WAN}
- Understanding of Network OSI Layers and associated network protocols
- Knowledge of network security (LAN and WLAN}
- Full understanding of switching ie mac addressing and routing ie ARP and routing tables
- Knowledge of network analysis tools, e.g. Wireshark
- Full Understanding of LAN, WLAN and WAN environment
- Professional understanding of network and Wi-Fi Monitoring tools
