Job description

The Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences (MIRS) is located within the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS). The MIRS Department is one of 12 academic departments within the FHS. The FHS is a member of the Universitas 21 (U21) Health Sciences Group. The MIRS Department has 14 lecturers, 2 Clinical Facilitators and a departmental secretary to serve our students in four disciplines. Undergraduate students are employed in accredited clinical training centers for the Work integrated Learning (WIL) portion of the training, which requires close liaison with our partners in co-operative education. Clinical training is currently a combined programme between the training centres, UJ lecturers and the UJ clinical facilitators. The MIRS Department has significantly increased its research profile with all full-time academic staff in possession of at least a Master’s degree.

Responsibilities: 

  • Facilitate work integrated learning (WIL) for Diagnostic radiography on and off campus. 
  • Coordinate WIL in liaison with the Diagnostic clinical training departments.
  • Implementation of a tailor made clinical programme within the department.
  • Liaise with lectures responsible for the theory subjects to ensure adequate alignment with WIL and tutorials.
  • Take responsibility for relevant academic administration.
  • Assist with mentoring of clinical tutors in training centres.
  • Participate in Faculty and Departmental tasks as required.
  • Participate in research and community engagement activities.
  • Mentor, monitor and conduct clinical assessments in the undergraduate programme/s, in liaison with the HOD; Lecturers; and industry stakeholders.


Minimum requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography (Diagnostic) or equivalent qualification.
  • Post graduate qualification in a related area or working towards a Master’s qualification.
  • Minimum of five years recent clinical experience in Diagnostic Radiography.
  • Registration with HPCSA in the Radiography and Clinical Technology Board. 
  • Thorough knowledge of various imaging protocols.
  • Experience in clinical supervision of students.
  • Driver’s licence (minimum code 08).

Recommendations:

  • Teaching experience in Radiography, preferable with experience in the use of technology for teaching.
  • A dual qualification in any disciplines of Radiography would be an advantage.
