Job description

The Department of Educational Psychology is located on the Soweto and Auckland Park campuses of the University of Johannesburg. It is involved in the education and training of pre-service and in-service teachers programmes in the fields of Education Studies, Life Orientation, Inclusive Education, Neurodevelopmental Learning Needs, Culture and Natural Science and Remedial Education The Department further trains specialists on post graduate level in the fields of inclusive education and learning support, and further trains educational psychologists.
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Teaching at undergraduate level in the areas of Neuro Developmental Learning Needs, Teaching Studies and Education Studies
  • Teaching on post-graduate level in the field of Inclusive education and Special Needs  (ADE Remedial Education; PGDip Inclusive Education)
  • Research supervision of postgraduate students in Inclusive Education, Special Needs Education and Educational Psychology
  • Research publications
  • Leading and managing research projects in the fields of Inclusive Education and Special Needs Education
  • Administration related to teaching, supervision, research and community engagement
  • Development of modules within blended learning and assessment practices with a focus on decolonialism.

Minimum requirements

  • An appropriate PhD or DEd degree
  • Experience of teaching in higher education
  • Accredited research output in the field on national and/or international level
  • Successfully supervised Master’s students.
 
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills
  • Excellent teaching skills and good interpersonal skills as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues and outside stakeholders
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Enthusiasm and passion for initial teacher education and Educational Psychology
  • Experience in the integration of ICT in teaching and learning as well as electronic assessment techniques (using e.g. Blackboard).
 
 Recommendations:
  • Knowledge of at least one African language
  • Ability to secure research funding
  • Ability to to develop national and international research collaboration.
