Job description

The Council of the University of Johannesburg has declared the University as a mandatory vaccination site as per the applicable policy ((https://www.uj.ac.za/covid-19/). All applications and offers of employment is dependent upon compliance with the said policy.


Responsibilities:
 
  • Support the university’s commitment to the Higher Education Transformation Agenda by entrenching and giving effect to the University’s Institutional Transformation Plan.
  • Assume an advocacy role within the institution and external to it, in respect of the Transformation Agenda of the University, diversity management and cultural integration.
  • Manage and coordinate diversity related initiatives (LGBTIQ).
  • Manage and coordinate Transformation Unit events and campaigns.
  • Conduct transformation related benchmarks.
  • Review, monitor and evaluate related policies.
  • Investigate internal complaints of discrimination and harassment.
  • Implement transformational change management processes.
  • Regularly conduct focus groups on all four campuses to measure institutional culture.
  • Leverage diversity experience and mentoring capabilities to increase cultural dexterity in the Institution.
  • Participate in the Consultative Problem-Solving Forum.
  • Responsible for the Unit’s branding internally and externally.

Minimum requirements

  • Degree or any relevant qualification (NQF 7) with Five (5) years job-related experience.
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years’ experience at a middle management level.
  • An understanding of the Higher Education framework and the HE Transformation Agenda will be advantageous.
  • Proven experience in dealing with conflict, mediation and resolution.
  • Previous experience in working on transformation/diversity programmes/projects in a large, diverse organisation (specifically, disability, race, class and gender inequalities).
  • Proven experience of managing work, projects and deliverables independently.
  • Proven experience in diversity mentoring.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of Diversity Metrics and Scorecards.
