Job description

  • Formulate, develop and implement a business plan for the effective and efficient functioning of the radio station.  Ensures that student interns and graduates follow the station’s mission and goals and works to increase listenership through creating an exciting on-air sound and brand  Need to represent the station at all levels and build strong, long-lasting relationships with the local businesses in the community that they serve.
  • Ensures compliance to corporate governance principles and adherence to the University policies and procedures.  Provides leadership with internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure that all content from on air, sales, promotions, the web etc., are consistent and complements each other.
  • Be available 24/7 in order to address emergencies.
  • Support the functioning of UJTV and its programming
  • Manages the finances of the radio station, which include identifying, exploring and establishing alternative third streams income revenue and managing the radio station’s total budget.
  • Ensures that the financial policies and procedures of the University are adhered to.

Minimum requirements

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism is essential.
  • At least three years working experience within the broadcast and radio environment with proven skills in the fields of production and broadcast
  • 2 – 3 years management of staff and supervisory experience.
  • Sound business management, people leadership and business development skills
  • Exceptional proven leadership and management qualities.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Results oriented, self-motivated, ethical and dynamic.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise

  • Qualification in radio and/or television broadcasting
