Technical Assistant I: Laboratory (P13) (FEBE: Civil Engineering Science)

Job description
The Council of the University of Johannesburg has declared the University as a mandatory vaccination site as per the applicable policy ((https://www.uj.ac.za/covid-19/). All applications and offers of employment is dependent upon compliance with the said policy.
- Prepare lab equipment for upcoming research experiments
- Perform laboratory tests
- Assist students during Practicals and research work
- Report data and compile information into graphs and documents
- Clean and maintain lab equipment
- Gather data and information from test subjects
- Monitor ongoing tests and experiments, noting any differences
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF 4)
- BEng/BTech or Diploma in Civil Engineering Science or closely related field- Advantageous
- A minimum of 3 years’ technical experience (in a tertiary institution will be an advantage)
- A proven track record of technical ability, and trouble shooting in a laboratory environment
- Evidence of working with different Lab equipment’s
- Research and analysis skills
- Industrial experience in civil engineering would be advantageous
- Supportive of academic culture, excellence, and research support
- Good technical aptitude, having experience in project work
- Willingness to pursue further studies and register with relevant professional councils - ECSA
- Sound ability to communicate with students, and staff – as well as in the teaching and learning environment
- Reporting, and supervisory skills
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Maintenance, and calibration of equipment in laboratories
- Knowledge of computer research and analysis programs
