The UJ Social Work and Community Development Department's vision is to be a centre of excellence in social work and community development education, committed to social justice and human development in an African context. We subscribe to the social development approach in our curriculum and are continually working towards a decolonial education.
 
Job Description:

The purpose of this post is to teach social work at undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the ambit of the Department of Social Work and Community Development.

Responsibilities:  
 
  • Lecture social work subjects on the bachelor’s, honour’s and master’s programmes
  • Facilitate social work internship classes
  • Conduct own research and publish articles in accredited journals
  • Supervise postgraduate students
  • Be involved in relevant community engagement
  • Share in academic and administrative tasks commensurate with academic level

Minimum requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work or a related discipline
  • At least three years’ post qualifying experience of social work practice
 
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • Competence in social work theory and processes
  • Competence in research methods
  • Interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Teaching and other academic skills.
  • Management skills, including networking, conflict management, quality assurance.
  • Administrative skills
  • Supervision skills
 
 Recommendations:

  • PhD in social work or a related discipline
  • Teaching experience in higher education
  • Accredited research publications
