Job description

To maximise physical performance ensuring elite sporting performance on a continuous basis to all sporting clients and sporting codes.

Responsibilities:  

  • Management of the assigned sporting code within UJ Sport.
  • Mentor the assigned Sport Science Honours students as part of the Work Integrated Learning programme
  • Manage the execution and progress of the periodized plan within the high performance sporting code to make adjustments as necessary to ensure success
  • Designs, develop, implement, and evaluates evidence- and scientific-based strength and conditioning programs for sporting code assigned
  • Advise and educate coaches and athletes on, but not limited to recovery methods, overtraining and injury rehabilitation
  • Assisting the Sport Science Honours students with gaining practical work experience and applying their theoretical knowledge on field and in the High-performance gym.
  • Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the unit on the progress.
  • Review the quality of the work completed with the team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the standards.
  • Identify and report risks within the Sport Science environment to the assessment register through line manager.
  • Attendance to development workshops, courses and interventions as per agreed performance development Plan (PDP).

Minimum requirements

  • Degree or any relevant qualification (NQF 7), with
  • 2 to 3 years’ working experience in Sport Science
  • Honours Degree with a major in Sport Science would be an added advantage
  • Required excellent knowledge and skill in the field of sport science, strength in conditioning for multiple sports at university or semi-elite level.
  • High competencies in sport specific assessment tools
  • Level 2 First Aid
  • Valid Code B driver’s license
