Job description

The Supply Chain Management Department is made up of Tenders, Procurement, Supplier Management, Contracts and Commodities and Warehouse and Distribution. Although each section has a manager, they all into the Senior Manager SCM.

Responsibilities: 
The core responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Identifies and implement strategic objectives of SCM Department
  • Analyses, investigates, assess, identify and management of key commodities to be put on UJ contracts, while ensuring value for money strategies
  • Assesses and investigate various software/systems to automate or streamline processes within procurement
  • Ensures compliance with regards to BBBEE codes related to preferential procurement
  • Ensures and enforces adherence to SLA Turnaround times
  • Improves service and visibility of Procurement through quarterly meet and greets with preparers, approvers and HOD’s of departments
  • Manages and be accountable for operational budget for Procurement, Contracts and Supplier Evaluator departments 
  • Compiles annual budget for Procurement, Contracts and Supplier Evaluator departments 
  • Partakes in negotiations with suppliers to ensure value for money.
  • Provides regular informal feedback to staff in respect of their performance.
  • Provides Mentoring and Coaching where required
  • Plans, directs and co-ordinate the activities of employees.

Minimum requirements

  • Postgraduate/Honours in Purchasing and Supply Chain, or equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience in Procurement/Supply Chain
  • Management Development Programme or equivalent
  • At least 5 years’ experience in managing medium to large teams
  • 3 years’ experience working with ERP systems
  • 5 years’ experience negotiating with suppliers
 
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
  • Must be able to identify and mitigate risk in the procurement environment
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with a wide constituent group of University employees, students, external funders, other universities, and the public, negotiate effectively with stakeholders
  • Keep abreast of the changes in state legislation and supply chain management regulations.
  • Be result-oriented, have strong organizational skills, self-motivated and proactive
  • Work comfortably in a highly collaborative setting
  • Be meticulous and have a keen eye for detail, identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ability to influence others and gain commitment
  • Maintain high level of integrity and ethical standards
  • Have an exceptional problem-solving skill, and the ability to remain calm in times of uncertainty, conflict, and stress.
  • Ability to exercise judgement in providing support and make quick and effective decisions.
