Job description
- Ensure strategic planning and constant awareness of new technologies.
- Participate on a strategic level in support of ICT governance of networks and communication policies, Risk management, cyber security and best practices.
- Provide an effective delivery capability to ensure successful Deployment, Maintenance and Support of UJ’s Networking and Telephony infrastructure.
- Provide an effective delivery capability to ensure successful Deployment, Maintenance and Support of UJ’s Network Security infrastructure.
- Plan, Direct and Coordinate operational activities to ensure continuous availability of the Network and Telephony systems including security devices.
- Liaise with Vendors regarding Incident resolution, Infrastructure maintenance and Support contractual obligations.
- Manage the Testing and Deployment of new solutions into production.
- Research and document Network and Telephony technology roadmaps and make recommendations regarding maturity and suitability for deployment.
- Document and Manage UJ’s Network & Telephony architecture and the lifecycle of critical hardware.
- Develop, Document and Mature ICS’s network and telephony operational processes.
- Identify and mitigate single points of failure within the NW & Telephony environment (HW & HR)
- Coach and Mentor resources on adopted operational best practices.
- Consult and provide advice to departments university-wide regarding their connectivity needs.
- Contribute positively to the advancement of the University’s IT Strategy
- Make a meaningful difference through cross skilling
- Forge and maintain external professional networks
Minimum requirements
- Degree or any relevant qualification (NQF 7)
- 5 to 7 years management experience in an IT Support environment
- Broad knowledge of ICT networks and communication policies and best practices
- Hands on Network technical support (5 Years)
- Working within a support team
- Network design (1 year)
- Network security knowledge i.e., firewalls, threat protection and secure network design
- Cisco/Equivalent networking certification
- Demonstrates and Proactively enables and encourages teamwork
