A Senior Manager is required, reporting to the Director at the Centre for Academic Technologies (CAT), to provide high-level co-ordination and oversight of the implementation of online teaching and learning.

Faculty/Dept./Division: Centre for Academic Technologies

The Centre for Academic Technologies (CAT) supports teaching and learning through the use of innovative and advanced technologies. Ensuring the training and support on the use of such technologies for both staff and students is a central part of CAT. CAT consists of a staff support (Instructional Design Team), student support (Helpdesk Team), and technical/data supports (IT team). Ultimately, we support all staff, students, and support stakeholders on all four of our UJ campuses. The Senior Manager in this role will be required to lead the teaching and learning support team but also work synergistically across all three teams to ensure collaboration on all projects.

Responsibilities: 
 
The Senior Manager for this advertised position will be required to:
 
  • Lead a teaching and learning support team on the training and advising to all internal stakeholders
  • Plan and co-ordinate projects on teaching and learning supported by educational technologies
  • Find synergies and foster collaboration across support divisions and the faculties with relevance to CAT activities
  • Be up to date with the scholarship of teaching, learning and design in the higher education context
  • Analyse and report on large and diverse data sets related to teaching and learning
  • Identify trends, conceptualise opportunities, and find solutions to challenges in varied teaching and learning contexts 

Minimum requirements

  • A Doctoral degree;
  • More than five years’ experience with online teaching and learning, either as an academic lecturer or within professional academic support;
  • A conceptual understanding of online teaching and learning, familiarity with current literature, and having a growth mindset;
  • Excellent written, oral and electronic communication skills, and proven ability to write high level proposals and reports;
  • Experience on the use of large data sets within a higher education context; and
  • Evidence of leading diverse teams in the implementation of innovative learning technologies.
 
Recommendations:
  • Experience in working with one or more statistical packages.
  • Skills in using data visualisation tool/s.
