Job description
- Installing, configuring, and maintaining Wi-Fi, network, and telephone equipment.
- Network, Wi-Fi and Telephone management and support.
- Monitoring of network infrastructure (network, Wi-Fi, and telephony) for performance.
- Service delivery by providing 3rd Level support when required (handling escalations from 2nd line network, Wi-Fi, and Telephone support).
- Monitoring of VoIP/telephony infrastructure (PBX, PCSs, Session border controller, call centre, voice-loggers, SMS system and TMS) for performance.
- Testing and evaluating existing networks, maintaining existing networks and troubleshooting LAN and WAN networks
- Participate in technological Innovation and Enhancement by providing and implementing innovative ideas in network management or Wi-Fi infrastructure, voice, and video communication.
- Leverage automation and new technologies.
- Participate in the Design, installation and administration of Network equipment, management, and monitoring tools (within the Network and Telephony domain).
- Up-to-date device and link descriptions on all network switches.
- Assist with Updating network diagrams and documentation.
- Assist with managing up-to-date, accurate device rack layout and allocations.
- Assist with ensuring neat and tidy installations.
- Capacity Planning and bandwidth utilisation.
- Collaboration and benchmarking with other global institutions of higher learning
- Project administration
- Assisting with 3rd Line support when required (handling escalations from 2nd line network, Wi-Fi, and Telephone support)
- Strict adherence to university and ICS standards, processes, and procedures i.e., Use of predefined IP addressing and use and VLANs.
- Participating in Testing and evaluating existing networks, maintaining existing networks and troubleshooting LAN\WLAN and WAN networks.
- Assisting with the replacement of network hardware including network switches and Wi-Fi access points
- Labelling of devices.
- Collaboration with other units within the ICS department.
- Assisting with Wi-Fi troubleshooting i.e., identifying bad network coverage areas
Minimum requirements
- Relevant Qualification (Diplomas and Certification) (NQF 6), with 2 to 5 years of Network, Wi-Fi, and Telephone support experience.
- 2 to 5 years of VoIP design, support and troubleshooting experience
- 2 to 5 years of Wi-Fi troubleshooting experience.
- 2 years of Switch configuration experience.
- ITIL Foundation.
- Formal Certification in the Prescribed Network and Wi-Fi technology.
- Project Management knowledge.
- Extensive knowledge of Windows Desktop support.
- Computer IP Network and Telephony Principles (WAN and LAN).
- Understanding of network and Wi-Fi protocols and technologies.
- Understanding of analogue and IP telephone systems.
- CCNA and HCIA
- ACFE (Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Certified Field Expert) OmniPCX Enterprise R11 or equivalent Certification
- Leadership Skills.
- Strong analytical and in-depth technical skills and knowledge.
- Fast paced, but carefully thought-out results.
