Job description
The Division of Student Affairs which derives its mandate from the Student Policies of SRC and House Committee Elections, SRC Constitution, Regulations of House Committees, Societies Policy, etc. The Department of Student Ethics and Judicial Services comprises all activities pertaining to education, and compliance, in managing Student Discipline in accordance with university’s policies, rules and regulations.
Job Purpose:
The Manager: Student Ethics and Judicial Services is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and administration of policies and procedures related to student conduct, ethics, and disciplinary processes. The role ensures that the institution maintains a fair, transparent, and educational approach to student discipline, in alignment with its values and code of conduct. The manager provides leadership in promoting a culture of accountability, respect, and ethical behaviour across the student body, while also safeguarding the rights of all parties involved in disciplinary matters.
Responsibilities:
- To implement and align disciplinary processes in accordance with regulations of Student Discipline.
- To ensure consistency, fairness, and objectivity in the execution of the disciplinary procedure.
- To utilise resources effectively and efficiently.
- To give guidance, advice and feedback to the Head: Student Judicial Services and other relevant parties.
- To refer students to relevant departments for support when deemed appropriate.
- To ensure effective and efficient facilitation of administration and record keeping.
- To strive for timeous and expedient finalisation of cases.
Minimum requirements
- A three (3) year Degree or LLB.
- Three (3) years' of Managerial experience with exposure to disciplinary procedures at a tertiary education institution.
- Demonstratable management experience.
- Budgeting experience.
- Business and management principles and processes within the specific environment.
- Good problem-solving skills via logical analytical thinking.
- The ability to consistently work accurately under pressure with excellent attention to detail.
- Good numerical skills.
- Very good verbal and written communication skills.
- Very good planning and organising skills, including time management.
- Good Administrative skills.
- High level knowledge of and three or more years’ experience in employee management and in dealing with employee disciplinary issues and hearings.
