Job description


Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure & Operations within the ICS Department. The incumbent will lead the Infrastructure & Operations team within the Infrastructure & Operations unit. Special focus will be given to the Microsoft applications, server infrastructure, and ensuring a supportive and enabling environment.
 
Upon joining the Department, you will:
 
  • Be situated at the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus, but not excluded from supporting all campuses Fulfil management, leadership, technical and administrative roles in the Department
  • Provide an effective delivery capability to ensure successful deployment, maintenance and support of UJ’s Microsoft environment, including on prem and cloud.
  • Plan, Manage and Coordinate operational activities to ensure continuous availability of the Microsoft Systems and applications.
  • Liaise with Vendors regarding Incident resolution, Infrastructure maintenance and Support contractual obligations.
  • Manage the Testing and Deployment of new Microsoft systems and environments.
  • Research and document Microsoft technology roadmaps and make recommendations regarding maturity and suitability for deployment.
  • Document and Manage Microsoft infrastructure architecture and the lifecycle of Microsoft products.
  • Develop, Document and Mature operational processes.
  • Coach and Mentor resources on adopted operational best practices.
  • Consult and provide advice to departments university-wide regarding their server and application requirements.
  • Contribute positively to the advancement of the University’s IT Strategy.
  • Effective and efficient unit people management.

Financial Management:
 
  • Contribute to preparing annual Infrastructure and Operations budget aligned with Business strategy.
  • Draft and evaluate Tender Documentation to procure the most suitable Microsoft including licensing solutions in accordance with business requirements.
  • Implementation and support of the ICT Vendor Management. Reporting of all incidents to relevant parties.
  • Incident and Problem Management.
  • Cross collaboration with all levels within the Organization.
  • Provide Support.
  • Project Management.
 


Minimum requirements

  • Degree or any relevant qualification (NQF 7), with 3 to 5 years’ job-related experience
  • Industry Standard Certification: Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (2012 or higher)
  • Active Directory and Azure Active Directory Skills
  • Windows Operating Skills
  • More than 4 years MS O365 skills, including securing of O365
  • Windows Security Skills
  • Patch management and vulnerability management
  • More than 2 years’ experience in Microsoft System Center Suite (Service Manager, Orchestrator, Operations Manager, Configuration Manager)
  • More than 4 year’s Microsoft Identity Manager Skills
  • More than 3 years Virtual Machine Manager Skills
  • Must be able to script
  • Project Management skills
  • Middle Management (2-3 years)
  • Vendor Management (2-3 years)
