Job description
“Please note that the University is obligated, in terms of recent amendments to the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act 2021 (Act 13 of 2021), to assess all prospective employees (including applicants) against the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO). The outcome of such an assessment may have an impact upon possible employment with the University.
- Implementation of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment process, corrective action and follow up
- Co-ordination of Legal training needs as per the OHS Act and Regulations and general training
- Ensure implementation of standards and policies
- Contractor safety
- Conduct investigations of all incidents as per section 24 and ensure appropriate SHE practices
- Co-ordinate waste management on campus
- Coordinating Safety events
- Co-ordinate emergency procedures
- Off campus privately own student accommodation safety inspections
Minimum requirements
- Degree in Safety Management or relevant qualification (NQF 7)
- 3-5 years’ proven experience dealing with fire related risks, gas, safety, emergency preparedness
- 3-5 years’ proven experience in Health and Safety
- 3-5 years’ proven experience dealing with injury on duty is essential
- 3-5 years’ proven experience in auditing legal compliance is essential
- A valid driver’s licence is essential
- Experience dealing with fire related risks, gas safety, emergency preparedness, safety inspections, safety meetings, safety training audits.
- Previous relevant experience in a higher education institution
- Must be able to work extended hours when required
- Must be able to travel between the campuses when required
- Communication with people across all levels
- Report writing
- Presentation on executive level
- Dealing with service providers
- Mobilizing of resources
- Facilitate Health and Safety meetings
- Computer literate
