Job description
- Educating, Informing and Training of student leaders about relevant and applicable policies, regulations and procedures.
- Implementing systems to enhance and monitor compliance with regulations and policies.
- Providing guidance in policy and procedural applications and implementation.
- Providing guidance to both students and members of staff on policy applications.
- Coordination of the election plans of SRC, House Committees, Student Parliament and student councils and societies as per the relevant and applicable policies and processes.
- Managing daily operations of the Unit.
- Developing Operational Plan of Action for Student Governance.
- Coordinating the Programme of Actions of Student Governance.
- Ensuring implementation of Operational Plans or Programme of Action of Student Governance.
- Ensure all student leadership programs are carried out.
- Creating high performance culture, accountability, and consequence management of staff.
- Assisting subordinate members of staff with planning and problem-solving.
- Managing and developing staff in line with the policies and processes of the University.
- Implement and maintain the strategic initiatives to keep members of staff motivated.
- Ensuring that individual development plans of staff are reflected in Performance Agreement,
- Facilitating and overseeing appointments and performance of properly appointed temporary employees.
- Advocating for and promoting the initiatives and operations of student governance.
- Execute responsibilities as delegated by the Director of Student Life and Governance and/or relevant authorities.
- Managing Reputational Risk associated with Student Governance.
- Ensuring Compliance to Corporate Governance Principles, and ensuring adherence to UJ policies, values and culture.
- Fostering stability and working relations with student leaders.
- Ensuring adherence and compliance with procurement processes and procedures.
- Controlling expenditure in line with approved budgets.
- Monthly reconciliation of budgets and financial expenditure.
- Facilitating and coordinating induction and development programmes for SRC, House Committees, Student Parliament, student councils and societies.
- Coordinating and ensuring deliverance of annual elections of SRC, House Committees, Student Parliament, Student Councils and Societies.
- Facilitating and Coordinating monthly and ad hoc reports of Student Governance.
- Taking and/or keeping records and minutes of relevant meetings.
- Ensuring that reports of SRC for institutional committees are professionally compiled, and submitted in time
Minimum requirements
- Degree NQF (7)
- Two (2) to Three (3) years’ experience in managerial position
- Three (3) years’ experience working in higher institution of learning
- One (1) year experience in project management
- One (1) year budgeting experience
- Demonstrable knowledge of Student Affairs
- Strong interpersonal, Written, and verbal communication skills
- Negotiation skills, Conflict management skills
- Financial management skills and Resource management skills
- Strong organisational and leadership skills.
- Information and knowledge management skills

- 3 years’ experience in Student Affairs
- A qualification in management studies would be an advantage
- Experience in project management
- Budgeting experience
- Business and management principles and processes within the specific environment
