Job description
- Ensure the availability of well-equipped, safe, and inviting learning and research spaces. Offer friendly and expert research support to create a productive and conducive research environment for all patrons.
- Increase awareness and accessibility of library platforms and systems designed to support research efforts and facilitate efficient information retrieval.
- Plan and implement training initiatives for academics and postgraduate students, ensuring timely scheduling, effective registration, and the provision of necessary resources to enhance research skills and competencies.
- Implement targeted marketing campaigns to promote monthly workshops and other library initiatives, ensuring engagement with key audiences.
- Actively participate in relevant library committees, task teams, and forums to support the development and optimization of library services.
- Equip postgraduate students and academics with essential skills to locate, evaluate, and effectively utilize information and technologies, enabling them to achieve academic and research success.
- Ensure the accurate recording and management of statistical information related to postgraduate and academic research support activities.
- Analyse and identify statistical trends, patterns, and insights to inform evidence-based decisions and contribute to the continuous improvement of library services.
Minimum requirements
- Diploma (NQF 6) in Library and Information Science or equivalent qualification
- Three (3) years’ experience in an academic library setting.
- Experience in utilizing library systems, research platforms, and tools to support teaching, learning, and research.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering training programs or workshops for postgraduate students and academics.
- Familiarity with online research databases, e-resources, and scholarly information platforms.
- Understanding of research methodologies and the scholarly research/communication lifecycle.
- Knowledge in literature review strategies, data management and citation practices.
- Awareness of Open Access publishing, research data sharing, and research impact metrics.
- Proficiency in teaching and promoting information literacy principles.
- Understanding of generative AI tools and their applications in research and academic workflows
- Knowledge of the teaching, learning, and research needs within a university setting
- Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting tools for library activities.
- Knowledge of reference management software such as EndNote, RefWorks or Mendeley.
- Knowledge of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies and their impact on academic libraries and research practices.
- Understanding of how libraries contribute to Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG
- Computer Literacy (Office, Word, Excel, etc.)
