Job description
- Conduct complete investigations in line with legally acceptable investigating techniques.
- Timeously respond to priority crimes when required.
- Manage crime scenes according to training & SOP until hand-over to SAPS.
- Register anonymously reported incidents to Compliance Risk and Enforcement (CRE).
- Be able to document and give an accurate incident report.
- Draft precise investigation reports of high reporting standards.
- Offer all university users a friendly, helpful, and practical Compliance Risk and Enforcement service.
- Keep accurate crime statistics, analyse the same, and recommend crime prevention strategies.
- Gather, preserve and share evidence pertinent to an investigation in line with the relevant regulations and UJ policies.
- To actively participate in Community Police Forum (CPF) and other crime prevention forums.
- Draft management reports as required.
- Keep up to date with the latest investigation technology and techniques.
- Conduct and report on risks identified from social media monitoring and environmental scanning.
- Conduct satisfactory client service surveys.
- Conduct inspections for compliance with relevant regulations and UJ policies.
- Implement and participate in crime prevention and awareness campaigns.
- Make recommendations to mitigate risks based on an investigation conducted.
- Analyse incident statistics to determine trends and recommend security measures to prevent further occurrences.
- Liaise with SAPS to obtain feedback on cases reported.
- Interfaces with UJ Strategic Communications regarding crime prevention programs and other UJ crime-related issues.
- Serve as an information resource as far as crime threats are concerned to the campus community.
- Make input on relevant new policies.
- Preparing and delivering oral presentations to student/staff groups when required.
Minimum requirements
- Degree (B-Tech Policing (specialising in Investigation), B-Tech Forensic Investigation, Criminology, Law) (NQF 7).
- A minimum of 3-5 years experience as an Investigator in a tertiary environment, SAPS, Government, or private sector.
- Proven investigative report writing experience.
- Have a valid driver's license.
- Have PSIRA Grade A registration or be eligible for registration.
- Proven computer skills (MS Office, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel).
- Understand the Constitution of South Africa, Human Rights, Criminal Law, Law of Evidence, POPI Act, etc.
- Be able to work under pressures and setbacks.
- Be available to work after hours and on weekends when necessary.
- Respond to emergencies on campus within a reasonable time when required.
- Extensive experience in Investigation would be an added advantage.
- Preferred: qualification in Law, Forensic Audit / Investigation.
