Job description

The University of Johannesburg is actively recruiting for a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management in the Human Resource Management Programme.

Duties:

The incumbent will be expected to:
 
  • Teaching and learning: Delivering engaging and informative lectures on various Human Resource Management modules, catering to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Designing assessments and grading student work accurately and promptly.
  • Research: Engaging in extensive research within the broad fields of Human Resource Management, contributing to the development of new knowledge and advancements in the discipline.
  • Research Pipeline: Establishing and maintaining a steady research pipeline to ensure consistent and impactful contributions to the academic community.
  • Professional Partnerships: Cultivating and nurturing professional relationships with industry partners to facilitate collaboration, internships, and research opportunities for students and the department.
  • Student Supervision: Providing guidance and supervision to Postgraduate students at Honours, Masters, and Doctoral levels, fostering their academic and research growth.
  • Academic Administration: Assisting in academic administrative tasks and contributing to the efficient functioning of the department.
  • Committee Participation: Active involvement in departmental and college-level committees, sharing expertise and contributing to the decision-making process.
  • Leadership Support: Contributing to academic leadership initiatives within the department.

Minimum requirements

Senior Lecturer:
  • A relevant Doctoral degree in Human Resource Management or its associated specialised fields.
  • Between four and eight years of working experience in the Higher Education environment.
  • Excellent teaching skills and extensive knowledge in the field of Human Resource Management, with a developed teaching philosophy.
  • Proven record of engagement with the scholarship of teaching, e.g., teaching evaluations or relevant portfolio.
  • A burgeoning research track record, with publications in reputable DHET accredited journals and conference proceedings.
  • Well-developed quantitative and/or qualitative methodology skills.
  • Proven supervision experience at Honours and Masters levels (completed students).
  • Proven supervision experience at a PhD level.
  • Knowledge of the online learning environment and ability to use and lecture on an online learner management system, e.g., Blackboard.

  • Evidence of visibility within the academic community
  • Affiliated and registered with the South African Board for People Practices
