Job Description:

The System Specialist is a critical member of the institution's ICS team responsible for the management, maintenance, and optimization of the institution's systems. This role focuses on Microsoft Azure Cloud services, Microsoft Active Directory and Azure AD, Windows server management, patch management, vulnerability management, and the administration of key Microsoft System Center products to ensure a secure and efficient computing environment.
 
  • Manage Active Directory.
  • Manage and monitor Azure resources, ensuring scalability and cost-efficiency.
  • Implement, and maintain Azure-based solutions to support institutional services.
  • Troubleshoot Azure-related issues and provide technical expertise.
  • Develop and execute patch management strategies for servers and endpoints.
  • Test patches for compatibility and apply them to mitigate security vulnerabilities.
  • Document patching processes and maintain patching schedules.
  • Assess and mitigate vulnerabilities in the institution's systems and applications.
  • Plan and execute vulnerability remediation strategies in collaboration with other IT teams.
  • Stay current with security threats and industry best practices.
  • Administer Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) for software deployment and updates.
  • Manage System Center Service Manager (SCSM) for incident and problem management.
  • Support and Maintain System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) for proactive monitoring and alerting.
  • Implement and enforce security policies and configurations, including Bitlocker encryption.
  • Participate in compliance audits and assist in addressing audit findings.
  • Collaborate with IT security teams to enhance security measures.
  • Develop and implement Disaster Recovery infrastructure for identified systems.

  • Be situated at the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus, but not excluded from supporting all campuses
  • Fulfil technical and administrative roles in the Department
  
Responsibilities: 
 
If you join the Department, you will:
 
  • Focus on service delivery by assessing current windows server environment and make recommendations for improvement
  • Support, maintain and monitor Windows servers (physical and virtual)
  • Manage, maintain and support on mailing lists (Linux and Rocketseed)
  • Report on UJ web statistics
  • Help determine and recommend web solutions
  • Innovate and enhance
  • Collaborate and benchmark
  • Administer and lead projects
  • Use tools to enhance and streamline web experience

Minimum requirements

To qualify, you need to have:
  • Degree or any relevant IT qualification (NQF 7)
  • Professional certifications with 3 to 5 years’ job-related experience
  • At least 3 years’ work experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in System Center Configuration Manager.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in System Center Service Manager.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in System Center Operations Manager.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in Microsoft inTune
  • Vulnerability and Patch management.
  • Microsoft Server Hardening.
