Job description
- Must be capable of lecturing Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Bioinformatics.
- Must demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and productive research and play a leading role in teaching innovation.
- Must be able to develop course material for Biotechnology modules required in the Department of Biotechnology and Food Technology.
- Must be actively involved in core activities of the department such as academic administration, research, short-course development, marketing, and community development projects.
- Be familiar with South African Biotechnology and Food Industry.
Minimum requirements
- A PhD in Microbiology or Biotechnology or Biochemistry or Molecular Biology or Bioinformatics.
- Three (3) to six (6) or more years' working experience in the Higher Education environment.
- Excellent teaching skills and knowledge in the relevant field.
- A proven research track record in reputable journals and conference proceedings.
- Supervision experience at Master’s level (completed students).
- Familiarity with SA Biotechnology or Food Industries.
- Computer Literacy.
- Proficiency in English.
- Good organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven record of academic administration.
- Strong interpersonal relationships.
- Analytical thinking.
- Experience in the integration of ICT in teaching and learning as well as electronic assessment techniques e.g. Moodle
- Track record of postgraduate (MSc and PhD) supervision, and accredited research output in the relevant discipline including conference proceedings.
- Track record of national and international collaborations or scholarship will be an added advantage.
- Proven engagement with the scholarship of teaching and learning including innovative teaching practices, include your teaching portfolio and previous peer and teaching evaluations.
- Knowledge of the online learning environment.
- Previous exposure to management of portfolios within a higher education environment.
- Evidence of visibility within the academic community.
