Job description
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the various sub-disciplines that constitute Political Science (Politics and/or International Relations).
- Supervise postgraduate essays, dissertations, and theses.
- Conduct and publish research in international, accredited journals and reputable presses.
- Take on administrative and committee roles within the Department of Politics and International Relations, the Faculty of Humanities, and the University of Johannesburg.
Minimum requirements
- A completed doctoral degree in Political Science (Politics and/or International Relations), with consideration for cognate disciplines.
- 4 or more years lecturing experience in the discipline of Political Science or cognate disciplines.
- Strong publication track record in reputable and accredited journals and presses.
- Strong commitment to good teaching and research.
- Sound communication skills in English and other South African languages.
- Experience in postgraduate supervision, including at the doctoral level.
- Candidates from designated groups (Black South Africans and women) are especially encouraged to apply.
- Previous administrative and leadership experience, an NRF rating, publication on decolonisation, scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), the 4IR, and the sustainable development goals (SDGs) through a political lens are added advantages.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Excellent teaching skills and good interpersonal skills as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
- Experience in the integration of ICT in teaching and learning as well as electronic assessment techniques e.g. Blackboard.
- Capacity to administer large undergraduate modules.
- Ability to work well and collegially with others and within established processes.
- Punctuality.
- Knowledge of various subfields of Political Science.
- Teaching experience, preferably at a Higher Education Institution.
- A track record of post-graduate research supervision and publication in the relevant field.
- Able to teach large groups of students (± 150).
- Proven research record.
- Experience lecturing undergraduates.
- Willingness to teach postgraduates in various sub-disciplines of politics and/or international relations.
- Proven record of management/administrative positions in university settings.
- Experience in curriculum development.
- Familiarity with blended learning techniques.
- Experience in compiling study guides.
- Experience in media engagement and writing of opinion articles on matters relevant to your discipline.
