Job Description: 
 
The Department of Fashion Design offers an undergraduate BA Fashion Design as well a Diploma in Fashion Production. The Department also offers postgraduate programs in Design from Honours to Doctoral levels. The successful incumbent will engage with both undergraduate teaching and postgraduate supervision in department program offerings. In addition, the successful incumbent is expected to enhance research and annually contribute to accredited research outputs.
 
Responsiblities: 
 
  • Discipline-specific teaching in Fashion Design and Fashion Production at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Contribute to the successful design, delivery, and development of blended curricula within the subject areas (i.e.,
    Design, Computer Aided Design, Pattern and Garment construction and discipline-specific theory)
  • Drive industry, outreach, community engagement, and muti-disciplinary projects
  • Coordination and contribution toward integrated and muti-disciplinary teaching and learning
  • Coordination of a program level and module(s)
  • Coordination and management of department computer laboratory and software licenses
  • Perform administrative and other ad hoc duties as required
  • To be active in research and contribute to accredited publications (textual and/or creative output) as per UJ 
    requirements

Minimum requirements

  • Master’s degree in Fashion Design
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching Design, Computer Aided Design, Pattern and Garment construction in a 
    tertiary environment
  • Experience teaching at all levels in a tertiary environment
  • Deep knowledge of Design, Computer Aided Design, Pattern and Garment construction
  • Deep knowledge of discipline-specific theory (i.e., Fashion Theory)
  • Evidence of a teaching and learning portfolio demonstrating innovative blended teaching methodologies that focus 
    on decolonization and 4IR in the discipline
