Job description

To maintain the plumbing infrastructure and other allied assets by assembling, installing, fixing, and repairing plumbing fixtures throughout the university, undertaking plumbing jobs & reporting thereon.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Action all maintenance callouts relating to plumbing
  • Inspect and determine method of operations to locate, install, test, repair or modify issues raised through callouts.
  • Carry out in-house repairs within established targets and monitor out-tasked contractor/s as and when required.
  • Communicate breakdowns, repairs and time frames to clients and the Manager.
  • Ensure completed jobs are signed off in accordance with SOPs requirements.
  • Assist the Supervisor or Management in compiling and maintaining a database of all plumbing repairs.
  • Perform plumbing maintenance e.g.: repairs taps, gutters, pipes, boilers, water tanks and pumps.
  • Assist in monitoring and follow up that service schedules are adhered to by planned maintenance contractors.
  • Recall or redo any service work not completed to established codes and standards.
  • Act as liaison between the Plumbers and Clients.
  • Inspect works carried out by project appointed contractors and other maintenance services.
  • Monitor onsite spares, materials, and inventory for the plumbing discipline.
  • Support the plumber in their work.
  • Carry out regular inspections of ablution facilities, water tanks, sump pumps & gutters, etc.
  • Assist the Supervisor and Management in carrying out regular condition audits of all plumbing and infrastructure within his/her area.
  • Assess, determine, and undertake steps to prevent possible risks.

Minimum requirements

  • NQF Level 4 Qualification (Matric or equivalent)
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in the building construction/plumbing and/or maintenance environment
  • Relevant experience in higher education environment
  • Knowledge of University rules, regulations, and policies
