Project Manager (P7) (Facilities Management: Central Technical Services)

Job description
- Provide project management, operational coordination, and support for all medium and large projects.
- Liaise, collaborate, and build relationships with all stakeholders involved in the projects.
- Ensure the effective and efficient management and utilization of the departments’ finances and resources.
- Adhere to all compliance standards, and UJ policies and procedures, and ensure all campus staff follow all standards.
- Ensure compliance with relevant statutory legislation and requirements (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.)
- Coordinate internal resources and third parties/ vendors for the flawless execution of projects.
- Ensure that all projects are executed and delivered on time, within scope and within budget.
- Develop project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
- Develop a detailed project plan to track progress.
- Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs.
- Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.
- Perform risk management to minimize project risks.
- Ensure the comprehensive project documentation is created and maintained.
- Report on project progress (monthly, quarterly, and final reports). Assume responsibility for quality of written documents submitted as project deliverables.
- Ensure high quality governance, administration, and system functioning of the project office systems.
Minimum requirements
- Postgraduate Degree with relevant qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Technology, Quantity Surveying or Project Management (NQF 7)
- Five (5) years’ working experience in project environment role managing of enterprise projects/programs across multiple divisions, clusters, and stakeholders.
- Effective communication skills including verbal and written.
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment.
- Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Strong multitasking and organisational skills
- Construction methodology
- Construction activity duration estimation and resource loading and smoothing
- Project activity network scheduling techniques (typically includes PERT, Critical Path, Critical Chain methods)
- Knowledge and Experience with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and associated Construction Regulations
- Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) as developed and maintained by the Project Management Institute
- Registered as a Certified Professional Project Manager with an accredited project management association (SACPCMP).
- Knowledge of and experience with current technologies and project management techniques.
- Compiling and writing of reports and proposals, including monthly/ quarterly/ final progress reports on projects.
- Proven ability to build and sustain relationships with through clear and effective communication, with all levels of management across functions and divisions within the university.
- Proven ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reporting staff, peers and external clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to make complex decisions with high level of discretion.
- Calm under pressure and able to direct people and teams in emergencies and with rapid problem resolution capabilities.
