Job description
“Please note that the University is obligated, in terms of recent amendments to the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act 2021 (Act 13 of 2021), to assess all prospective employees (including applicants) against the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO). The outcome of such an assessment may have an impact upon possible employment with the University.
- Facilitate teaching, learning and assessment activities for undergraduate emergency medical care students.
- Participate in, and facilitate, clinical learning and/or related WIL, simulated learning events and placements, including the mentoring of students on the clinical learning platform.
- Develop and refine course materials.
- Organize and participate in physical fitness and swimming training including the conducting of related assessments where necessary.
- Annually publish peer-reviewed papers in accredited scholarly journals and deliver papers at national and international conferences.
- Actively conduct research.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Be actively involved in all Departmental academic and administrative activities/duties (e.g. audit or accreditation preparations, participation in official meetings and gatherings).
Minimum requirements
- A Master’s degree in Emergency Medical Care (NQF-9) or an appropriate professional qualification (NQF-9) in the field of emergency medical care with a mark of 70% or more. A successful incumbent (without a PhD qualification) will be required to commit to register for their PhD post commencement of duties.
- Two years of registration (and currently registered) with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner.
- Code B driver’s license.
- Candidates must be able to pass departmental physical fitness and swimming assessments.
- Good interpersonal skills as well as the ability to interact with colleagues.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Enthusiastic, tenacious and have a passion for clinical work and teaching.
- A Doctoral degree in Emergency Medical Care (NQF-10) and obtained a minimum of 70% in their Masters.
- One to two years' of working experience in teaching and learning.
- Knowledge of faculty and academic policies, rules, and regulations.
- A track record of postgraduate research supervision and peer-reviewed publication in the field of emergency medical care.
- Experience with online and or remote learning platforms.
