Job description

Responsibilities:
 
Sustainability through innovation (Competitive participation and Implementation):
 
  • Fitness testing of players and teams so that an accurate physiological profile of the individual can be obtained.
  • Develop specific training programmes and monitoring adherence thereof.
  • Liaise with coach to maximize effects of training.
  • Advise and educate coaches and players on, but not limited to recovery methods, hydration strategies, substance abuse and overtraining.
  • Provide benchmark physiological information to enable long –term player development.
  • Work in collaboration with other sport scientists and medical professionals like but not limited to physiotherapists, dietitians, chiropractors, Sport Physicians, and sport psychologists.
  • Mentor the Work integrated learning students.
  • Contribute to research activities within the Sport Science division.
  • Proven experience as a sport scientist in either Cricket, Hockey, Football and Rugby.

Minimum requirements

  • Honours Degree with a major in Sport Science or suitable equivalent qualifications.
  • Required excellent knowledge and skill in the field of sport science, strength in conditioning for multiple sports at university or semi-elite level.
  •  2 to 3 years working experience in Sport science strength at university or semi-elite level.
  •  High competencies in sport specific assessment tools such as Wattbike, Smart Speed, Force plates and GPS Athlete monitoring and management software experience.
  • Valid First Aid and /or Basic Life Support certificate.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be willing and available to travel and work over weekends dependent on fixtures
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
 
  • Conversant with Microsoft office packages 
  • Analyse and resolve problems and situations effectively. 
  • The ability to perform under pressure. 
  • Excellent writing, verbal, and electronic communication skills. 
  • Proven ability to produce high-level reports. 
  • Good presentation Skills 
  • The ability to initiate and manage projects and work independently. 
  • The ability to develop collaborative relationships with senior staff across the University. 
  • Exemplary personal qualities of integrity, sound judgement, attention to detail; and energy and interpersonal skills.
