Facilitator I: Professional Support (P8) (Division for Teaching Excellence: Centre for Academic Staff Development)

Job description
- Initiate and implement academic staff development programmes
- Teach in the Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education
- Assist with teaching and module evaluations and create and implement development opportunities that arise from these.
- Participate in activities in CASD and across the DTE
- Assist academic staff with innovation in teaching, learning and assessment.
- Creating and implementing programmes and development opportunities for this category of staff
- Mentoring and providing support
- Conducting ongoing research on trends in teaching and learning in higher education in order to inform the teaching practices of academic staff and DTE linked initiatives
- Any other duties as required by the Director of the CASD.
Minimum requirements
- Post-graduate (higher diploma and or honors degree), in Education, Staff Development or Educational Psychology, or a cognate field
- At least 3 years' experience of working in Higher Education and/or 1 year working in academic staff development
- A working knowledge of the South African Higher Education environment
- Commitment to further studies, preferably in higher education
- A masters degree in a relevant field.
- Knowledge of the field of academic development and mentoring in education.
- Experience of facilitating workshops in teaching and learning in higher education for academic staff
- Understanding of theories relating to teaching and learning in higher education and its application in the South African higher education
- A capacity for innovation, eg. to conceptualise and initiate new programmes and conduct research
- Personal qualities of integrity, sound judgment, a broad vision and accommodative interpersonal skills
- Excellent written, oral and electronic communication skills, especially in English
- A willingness to adapt to changing needs in the work environment.
- The ability to make decisions as appropriate
- The ability to work as part of a team
- The ability to use technology to enhance learning
