Job Description:

The University of Johannesburg is actively recruiting for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the department of Marketing Management. The Department of Marketing Management has just been voted as the most impactful on the African continent and prides itself on the quality of its lecturers. The Department of Marketing Management's core focus is to equip students through designing future forward comprehensive academic programmes that are aligned with industry standards. UJ is the only residential comprehensive university that offers a full spectrum on Marketing and Retailing qualifications, from certificate to doctoral level.

The Department is only one of a few institutions that offer qualifications in Retailing. The BCom Honours Marketing Management qualification was judged to be the benchmark programme in South Africa by the Peer Review Panel. The Department of Marketing Management strongly believes in establishing relationships with key-role players within the Marketing field and industry to stay ahead of trends and developments within the marketing sphere.
 
Responsibilities:  
 
The incumbent will be expected to:
 
  • Lecture in any of the related Marketing fields, on any level and at any of the UJ campuses.
  • Participate in research activities of the College/School/Department.
  • Participate in community engagement activities of the department.
  • Perform departmental and other administrative academic duties as required.
  • Perform Departmental, School and College committee duties.
  • Conduct research and regularly publish in accredited academic journals and attend conferences.
 

Minimum requirements

For Lecturer

  • A relevant master’s degree (NQF 9 level) in Marketing Management or its relevant related disciplines.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of industry experience.
  • Previous lecturing experience in the relevant subject disciplines.

For Senior Lecturer

  • A relevant doctorate (NQ10 level) in Marketing Management or its relevant related disciplines.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of industry experience.
  • Excellent teaching skills and knowledgeable in the field of Marketing Management or its relevant related disciplines.
  • A proven research track record in reputable journals and conference proceedings.
  • Previous lecturing experience in the relevant related subject disciplines.
  • Evidence of teaching and learning excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Proven research and supervision record at postgraduate level.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of industry experience.
 
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills.
  • Excellent teaching skills and good interpersonal skills as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues.
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Enthusiasm and passion for Marketing and its related disciplines.
  • Proven excellence in academic study record.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in both Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methodologies at postgraduate level.
  • Proven ability to think critically, analytically, and laterally across disciplines and sectors (transdisciplinary).
 
 Recommendations:
 
For Lecturer:
  • Currently enrolled for/or completing a PhD (NQF 10 level) in Marketing Management or its relevant related disciplines; or
  • A relevant Doctoral degree (NQF 10 level) in Marketing Management or its relevant related disciplines.
  • A proven research track record in reputable journals and conference proceedings.
  • Evidence of teaching and learning excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Proven supervision record at postgraduate level.
  • Knowledge of the online learning environment and ability to use and lecture on an online learner management system, e.g., Blackboard.
  • Three to five years’ working experience in the Higher Education environment in the field of Marketing Management or its related disciplines.
  • Evidence of visibility within the academic community.

For Senior Lecturer:
  • Four to eight years’ working experience in the Higher Education environment in the field of Marketing Management or its related disciplines.
  • Proven research and supervision record at Masters’ and Doctoral level (to completion).
  • A burgeoning research track record, with publications in reputable DHET accredited journals and conference proceedings.
  • Proven record of engagement with the scholarship of teaching, e.g., teaching evaluations or relevant portfolio.
  • Recognition as an established discipline-based leader/expert.
  • An NRF rating (or equivalent), or the capability of obtaining one within three to five years.
  • Recognition as an established discipline-based expert.
  • Evidence of visibility within the academic community.
  • Demonstration of high-level and constant engagement in pedagogical activities within and beyond the classroom, in respect of teaching materials, assessment practices, integrated learning skills and learning.
  • Evidence of discipline-related external assessment and recognition as a leading expert in discipline-related pedagogy.
  • Evidence of teaching and learning excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Evidence of national/international reputation as an established and distinguished researcher/creative practitioner, including an appropriately high number of peer citations.
