Job description

The Centre for Psychological Services and Career Development (PsyCaD), at the University of Johannesburg offers a broad spectrum of psychological and educational services to UJ students, staff, and families, as well as children and adolescents, with the aim of enhancing their psychological fitness to manage personal life challenges, increase productivity and to optimise their performance. PsyCaD services include individual, couple, family and group counselling, trauma counselling, psychological -and psycho-educational assessments, career assessment and counselling development and planning services.
 
The successful incumbent will be responsible for providing basic assessment, psychological and career development interventions to clients of PsyCaD towards career success, while adhering to professional, institutional, and national legislation, policies and guidelines. 
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Provide preventative, developmental and career consulting/counselling services and interventions.
  • Coordination of activities and information resources in the Career Resource Centres, including interactive web-based support and resources.
  • Involvement in the annual Graduate Recruitment Programme and Employer Relations.
  • Participate in relevant project and programme delivery as required within the PsyCaD context.
  • Manage the Social Media Influencers Programme.
  • Present workshops and radio interventions on UJ FM
  • Assist students with Career Counselling with specific focus on work applications, CV writing, Interviewing Skills, Job search strategies as well as the development and presentation of career education workshops for students, departments, and faculties.
  • Provision of career assessments, advisory and consultation (related to scope of practice).
  • Responsible for professional administrative functions.

Minimum requirements

  • An accredited Honours Degree, and current registration with the HPCSA in one of the following categories: Industrial Psychologist OR Registered Counsellor .
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of job-related experience.
 
Recommendations:
 
  • Experience in the coordination and development or career and workshop readiness programmes and services, preferably gained in a diverse Higher Education setting. Experience of and an understanding of the use of web-based career applications for career development and graduate recruitment purposes.
  • Able to learn existing Career Services platforms as a student and employer relations management tool.
  • Flexibility to work on a rotational basis between campuses in order to meet students' needs.
  • Sound career psychology theoretical foundation.
  • In-depth understanding of Career Services within a University setting.

  • Professional career guidance, facilitation, and development skills (related to Scope of Practice).
