Job description
- Lecture social work subjects in the Bachelor of Social Work and/or Bachelor of Community Development programmes
- Lecture subjects on the coursework Masters’ programme
- Conduct own research and publish articles in accredited international journals
- Supervise postgraduate students (master’s coursework, master’s by research and PhD)
- Be involved in relevant community engagement
- Share in leadership and academic and administrative tasks commensurate with the academic level
Minimum requirements
- PhD in social work or related subject
- Current registration with SACSSP as a social work
- At least three years post qualifying experience of social work practice
- At least five years of teaching, postgraduate supervision, assessment and curriculum design in higher education
- A clear teaching philosophy and evidence or examples of how this philosophy is implemented in practice
- Substantial accredited research output, within a clearly defined research niche: For Professor level, at least 10 DoHET publication units on topics related to social work, at least 5 of which should be in the past 3 years
- Competence in social work theory and processes
- Competence in research methods, with one or more areas of leading research-based expertise
- Evidence of research fundraising (grants)
- Interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Effective experience in leadership roles
- Teaching and other academic skills
- Computer competencies
- Administration
- Postgraduate supervision
- Working in a multicultural context
- Leadership role in academia (e.g., head of department)
- NRF rating (C or higher) or compelling evidence of national or international reputation or standing as an established and distinguished researcher
