Job Description:
 
  • To Perform general interior and exterior carpentry and joinery work throughout the University: owned or leased buildings and facilities
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Perform locksmith duties, fitting of various doors, hardware’s, closers, and other associated maintenance.
  • Perform duties in a timely, professional, and safe manner.
  • Work tasks are completed to the satisfaction of the building and Civils Supervisor and the Maintenance Manager of the department
  • Perform cabinet making duties in a competent manner.
  • Ensure that all defects are repaired in a timely manner and left in a safe condition.
  • Ascertain that preventative maintenance measure is completed in accordance with the university policy and procedures.
  • Undertake the preventative maintenance at the required frequency and prioritised accordingly.
  • Assist the Supervisor with the management and directing of various building and maintenance contractors
  • Ensure compliance with the Health & Safety Act in performing any tasks.
  • Assist the supervisor/manager in implementing the safety procedures with contractors including safety inductions and hazard identification.
  • Ensure that work areas are kept tidy, safely and secure at all times and comply with the OHSA ·     Identify hazards to which staff may be exposed to and take preventative measures
  • Apply health and safety related skills and knowledge to all work practices
  • Attend to carpentry related call-outs to any department or unit as requested;
  • Perform minor carpentry projects and new work installation to the satisfaction of the Supervisor.
  • Assist the Supervisor in preparation for the specifications and materials for the department ·     Provide first class customer service efficiently and effectively.
  • Communication with staff and clients in a professional manner.

Minimum requirements

  • Trade Test in Carpentry
  • Grade 12 (NQF 4) qualification or equivalent
  • Three years’ appropriate experience in carpentry works.
  • A valid code 8 drivers’ license
